Art Educator / Artist
Saturday Art School
During the 2012 Fall Semester at Penn State, I co-taught with a peer in Art Education for 8 weeks. The Pen State Saturday Art School program was developed for Art Education students to work with children of the State College community. The standards based curriculum, in which my co-teacher and I built, consisted of Exploring Nature with the Arts, looking at artist's such as Andy Goldsworthy, Georgia O'Keefe, and Magda Sayeg. We designed a unit rationale and eights corresponding lessons, each lesson 2 hours long on a Saturday morning. Using the Visual Art facilities including a visit to the Palmer Museum, my co-teacher and I explored the fields of printmaking, nature installations, mixed media paintings, yarn installations, and drawing with our students. At the end of the eight weeks, all Art Educators in the program collaborated on installing and hosting a Gallery Show, exhibiting works of students from a range of age levels.
