Images: mix of 6/7/8th grade sketchbook covers
Each school year begins with sketchbook cover design. Students are to research a phrase or quote that inspires them and design a composition that flows from the front to the back cover, focusing on developing an emphasis and unity. Sketchbooks are used in the classroom as a space for expression, reflections, and planning. The theme for sketchbook cover design can change from year to year. These personalized sketchbooks also contains all graded worksheets and important handouts. The sketchbook becomes a useful organized tool for students to go back and reflect on what they have learned, also to see their growth throughout the school year. Sketchbooks are easy to send home with students to show parents what their child is learning in the art room. Sketchbooks allow for non-verbal communication with home. The sketchbook gives the student a since of ownership and comfort in the room, because they are always located in the art room and available during free time.
